The Pascagoula River Audubon Center is honored to host the Vancleave Live Oak Choctaw Tribe on Saturday, May 20th for two of their time-honored traditions. The tribe will hold a “Naming Ceremony” for tribal members beginning at 10:00 a.m. during which as many as 30 individuals will receive their Choctaw names. The Tribe will follow this with a “Blessing of the Waters” at 11:30 a.m. This ceremony will focus on honoring the Pascagoula River, a river that is sacred to them. The Center and the Tribe encourage visitors to join both programs and experience American Indian tradition on our river. Tribal members will be in traditional dress for both ceremonies to offer a glimpse of their rich cultural heritage.
