Education and Outreach Needs

Do you enjoy working with the public? Teaching students of all ages (from toddlers to senior citizens?) We have a variety of projects in need of education help and support- some require direct teaching and some are assistant teaching roles.

Thursday, April 13th: Earth Day Event for Magnolia Middle School

We will be hosting our second annual Earth Day Event for the eighth graders at Moss Point's Magnolia Middle School! Help is needed from 8 a.m. til 1 p.m. with several stations that help students gain hands-on appreciation of our natural ecosystems. Stations include: water quality testing, native plants, birds, soils, and more!

Needed: 8-10 volunteers that can help with set up, teaching (curriculum supplied), and clean up of stations

Saturday, April 22nd: Earth Day Family Event

We will be hosting an "open house" event for the public (aimed at families with children) with a variety of stations set up, activities and crafts to do, and more. We need MANY volunteers (30+) to make this event a success! We need volunteers that can help from 9-3 (event hours are 10-2). We can accomodate high school age volunteers with adult supervision!

Facepainters (4): Willing and able to paint nature-themed designs on children

Tie dye station (2-4): Willing to get messy (gloves provided) while helping children make tie-dyed tee shirts

Bird feeder making and decorating (2-4): Willing to work with young children, putting together and decorating simple (pre-cut and sorted) "tin can" birdfeeders

Children's Garden (4-6): Willing and able to supervise gardening activities with small children and families in the Nature Garden

Children's Crafts and Activities (4-6):  Willing to lead some simple craft activities with young children

Nature Scavenger Hunt Leader (2): Willing to take participants on a guided walk of the trails and grounds while kids look for natural objects and check them off on a list

Saturday, May 13th: Mother's Day Bluebird Box Building

Bluebird box constructors (2-4): We need some handy folks that will be willing and able to help children (and less handy adults) to safely put together a simple wooden bluebird house (houses will be pre-cut and in "kits" with all the hardware, etc ready to go).
